Inside Snowdonia

When planning a visit to North Wales there is one area in particular that will always end up on the list; Snowdonia. There is so much to see and to do in the area with regards to landscapes, activities and mountain ranges, with barely enough hours in the day to accommodate for it. However, here we are going to narrow down that list to some of the popular choices when staying at hotels in Snowdonia.

Porthmadog

The Porthmadog area is always bustling with activity and rife with tourism throughout the entire year. This may be due to the fantastic coastal views and choice of high quality fish and chip shops, however, whatever the reason may be you are sure to feel like you are on holiday whether you are staying for the weekend or popping to the shops.

If shopping is something you are particularly fond of then Porthmadog will not disappoint. There are some unique independent shops that provide quality goods such as designer pottery and a 130 year old department store called Kerfoots. There are also some wonderful locally sourced shops such as a butchers, fishmongers and greengrocers.

From the chip shops to the harbour and the railway to the coastline, there is enough to see and do in Porthmadog to fill an entire day with entertainment, food and activities. If you are in the Snowdonia area then this town is an absolute must-see.

Blaenau Ffestiniog

The train from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog is a quick means to see some Snowdonia’s most unique and picturesque sights. This town was once the “town that roofed the world”, with slate from Blaenau Ffestiniog being exported to countries far and wide. The slate caverns are an incredibly popular tourist attraction that takes you underground to learn about the workings of a Victorian mine, from the perspective of the “ghost” of a 12 year old miner, Sion.

Blaenau is also home to the Antur Stiniog Mountain Biking Centre, which has become quite popular over the years amongst the biking community. The downhill biking trails found in Blaenau are something to be admired, however, Antur Stiniog also organises walking, kayaking, fishing, camping and so much more. Their knowledgeable staff are always ready to discuss adventures and activities with you.
